BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The start of a new year is just days away! That’s right folks we are saying goodbye to 2014 and hello to 2015! But do you have your plans in place for New Year’s Eve? If not than have no fear! Antwon Ervin and Discover Birmingham have some ideas for you to help you ring in the New Year in style!
Looking for a little mystery and a few laughs this New Year’s Eve? Then check out: ETC presents To Mock a Killing Bird starting at 8 pm at Theatre Downtown (Fifth Ave Antiques).
Our wacky guests show up to a holiday party, and soon there’s a cold-blooded murder. When the police arrive, the audience is invited to help in the investigation to solve this hilarious improvised yuletide homicide. Can you solve the case – or will the killing bird mock YOU? You can also ring in the New Year at Rojo! Doors open at 5 pm and there is no cover. The Cyanotics will perform at 9 pm and then Shaheed and DJ Supreme at 11 pm. There is also a free champagne toast at midnight.

Would you care to take in a symphony to celebrate? Alabama Symphony Orchestra: New Year’s Eve: A Viennese Celebration is taking place starting at 6 pm at the Alabama Theatre. Waltz in your last night of 2014 with the Alabama Symphony Orchestra! Strauss, Gershwin, Porter, and works by other fantastic composers and arrangers will be played, ending with a toast of bubbly. Christopher Confessoreis the conductor and Lisa Vroman is the vocalist.
Now that you have your New Year’s Eve plans down what about New Year’s Day? Why not hit up the Birmingham Art Crawl from 5 pm to 9 pm on January 1st.
The Birmingham Art Crawl is a monthly happening bringing people to the cultural and historical Central City area and showcases Birmingham’s deep and energetic pool of creative talent. Art Crawl is the first Thursday of every month from 5:00 – 9:00 pm, rain or shine. Venues stretch across Central City of downtown Birmingham including galleries, restaurants and bars, downtown businesses and more. Art Crawl is a great way to meet local artists and performers, buy and appreciate their work, and be part of the rapidly growing art scene in Birmingham. An estimated 2,500 art enthusiasts will attend each month to support around 50 local artists.
