The Shop From CommVess brings record store, more music to Woodlawn
On August16, local record label Communicating Vessels will bring a new kind of store to Historic Woodlawn. Called The Shop From CommVess, this new record store will feature records, CDs test pressings, mix tapes, cassette tapes, rarities and special items from their own artists. The store will also feature several hand-picked selections from other labels, said Jeffrey Cain, founder of Communicating Vessels. “We figure that the types of people who are attracted to the music we love to make will also love the music we choose.”
The Shop From CommVess will even feature an area where patrons can sit down and listen to the records in the shop. “People can get a better idea for what we do here,” said Cain. “Plus, you can come in and have a cup of coffee or a beer and listen to music.”
Located at 15 55th Place South, the shop will be adjacent to the label’s offices and recording studio. “We’re kind of turning the street into Music Row,” said Cain. “There are a lot of cool things happening in the area. I think that the shop will give people another reason to check it out.”
The grand opening will run from noon to midnight on August 16 and feature music from local DJs. Those in attendance can also enjoy the available refreshments and record raffle. All purchases will come with a complimentary “Grand Opening Mix.”
“The store is a great chance for us to get face-to-face with music listeners and give them a chance to hear new music and get it straight from the source,” said Cain. For more information, visit the event’s Facebook page here.
